Prepare the source and language pair
Record the source and target language, audience, currency and measurement conventions. Supply the approved dish list as text. Keep brand names and regional names where translating them would change the meaning.
Separate description from safety information
Do not infer an allergen, absence of an ingredient, vegan status or dietary suitability from a dish name or photo. Keep the kitchen’s approved ingredient and allergen records separate, and have the responsible person confirm every translated safety statement.
An example to review
For Spanish to English, “Tortilla de patatas, porción individual” could be drafted as “Spanish potato omelette, individual serving.” That explains the dish instead of implying a flatbread. Confirm the recipe, serving and wording with a native speaker; this example does not establish allergens or suitability.
